20 new bedrooms proposed for Bellingham Castle
A major extension of bedrooms is being planned for Bellingham Castle.
The Castlebellingham venue has become one of the region’s most exclusive wedding venues in recent years.
Now its owners the Corscadden family are planning to add 20 new bedrooms to the hotel.
They are proposing to convert an existing 1960s ballroom block into 11 ensuite bedrooms with storage areas and circulation, including a passenger lift.
Plans for the redevelopment are due to be lodged shortly and will include alterations to the 1960s ballroom elevations, the re-surfacing of the adjoining car park, landscaping, re-location and screening of gas tanks and bin storage zone, the demolition of an existing single storey shed to the south of the site and the construction of a replacement single storey building containing nine ensuite bedrooms and a cleaner’s store.
There would also be the construction of a boat house and machinery store building and the retention of security gates.
Dating from 1660, Bellingham Castle was acquired in 2012 by the Corscadden family, who also run Cabra Castle Hotel in Kingscourt. They subsequently invested in a major refurbishment, which led to the castle reopening in January 2014.
