A year ago today since Storm Ophelia
It was a year ago today that Storm Ophelia battered the country.
The red alert event saw all public transport services grind to a halt with all local schools closing and many business premises also shutting up shop.
The biggest impact the storm had locally came at around 2.45pm 12 months ago when a tree fell on the car of Ravensdale man Fintan Goss on the R132 Dundalk to Newry Road, claiming his live. The former St Patrick’s GFC player had only married his wife Pamela the year before with the couple only having had their second child six weeks earlier.
The fallen tree north of Dundalk resulted in the closure of one of many local roads with several power cuts reported throughout the region.
Sympathy to Fintan’s friends and relatives on the anniversary of his death.
