Almost €22.5 million spent on car parking charges at hospitals in 2017
Patients and hospital visitors spent almost €22.5 million on car parking charges in 2017, new figures have been revealed.
The figures, released by the HSE to Sinn Féin’s Health Spokesperson Louise O’Reilly following a parliamentary question, show that over €60,000 a day is collected by hospitals in parking revenue.
Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda had the highest maximum daily value at €20.
Both Sinn Féin and the Irish Cancer Society have called for the charges to be scrapped.
In 2017 Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital collected €618,000 in car parking revenue while the Louth County Hospital in Dundalk (pictured above) collected €88,000.
