Benson and Tagbajumi on target as Dundalk sink Waterford
Goals in either half from Robbie Benson and Marco Tagbajumi saw Dundalk FC beat Waterford FC 2-0 at Oriel Park last night to keep them top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division table.
Stephen Kenny’s side were on top right from the off with Daniel Cleary and Michael Duffy both being denied by visiting goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux before the breakthrough arrived six minutes before half-time.
Duffy found space on the left to pull the ball across to the incoming Benson, who steadied himself before finishing high to the net.
Dundalk had chances to put the game to bed early in the second half with Patrick Hoban blazing over before Duffy fired straight at Vigouroux following a break.
This allowed Waterford to push for an equaliser in the closing stages and they almost got it too when substitute Sander Puri hit the post in the 90th minute.
Dundalk put the game to bed after that as they broke upfield through Duffy, who squared for Tagbajumi (pictured above) to tap home his first league goal for the club.
Next up for Dundalk is a home game against Bray Wanderers at Oriel Park on Friday night.
