Bohs bring Dundalk’s unbeaten run to an end
Dundalk FC’s 31 match unbeaten run domestically came to an end on Friday night when they lost 2-1 to Bohemian FC at Dalymount Park.
Vinny Perth’s side hadn’t tasted defeat in 24 league matches since losing by the same scoreline away to Sligo Rovers on April 12th. However with a number of first team players sitting it out and the title already in the bag, Keith Long’s side took advantage to strengthen their hopes of securing European football next season.
It had been a bright start for Dundalk with Georgie Kelly flashing a header wide and Sean Murray testing James Talbot but Bohs then took the lead with their first attempt on 28 minutes.
Danny Grant’s ball played Luke Wade-Slater in behind on the right with the winger capitalising on the space to slot past the advancing Gary Rogers.
Sean Hoare did go close to an equaliser shortly after the restart when he was denied by Talbot but the defender was at fault for Bohs’ second on 64 minutes when he lost out to Andre Wright at the edge of his own penalty area before the striker drilled low and hard past Rogers.
Substitute Michael Duffy did manage to pull a goal back deep in stoppage time but it proved to be the last kick of the game.
Dundalk will now hope to bounce back to winning ways when they travel to Turner’s Cross to face Cork City on Friday night.
