Broadhurst guaranteed at least a bronze at European U22 Championships
Local boxer Amy Broadhurst guaranteed herself at least a bronze medal at the European Under 22 Championships in Russia today.
The Muirhevnamore southpaw dominated her quarter-final against Hungarian Kinga Mazovari to win on a unanimous decision.
Amy had previously beaten Turk En Gizem while her last 16 bout with Belarussian Ulyana Yesipenka was stopped in the first round due to an injury.
Broadhurst will now look to upgrade to silver on Friday when she will face France’s Fatia Benmassahel, the 2017 European Youth champion.
Tweeting afterwards Amy said: “Unbelievably delighted to have secured a bronze medal at these europeans! 6 European Championships with 6 European medals 🥇🥈🥉 making history as we go along! Boxing France next to change the colour. All the boxers have been class out here with some of them been very unlucky.”
