Broadhurst through to last 16 at Women’s World Boxing Championships
Dundalk boxer Amy Broadhurst made it through to the last 16 in the lightweight division at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in Ulan-Ude in Siberia on Sunday.
The 22-year-old fighter secured a unanimous 5-0 win (30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28) victory over Germany’s Maya Kleinhams. This was a battle of the southpaws with Broadhurst’s back hand doing most of the scoring in a tactical contest.
The wins sees Broadhurst join Ceire Smith, Michaela Walsh and Christina Desmond in the last sixteen.
Broadhurst now meets Poland’s Aneta Rygieiska on Wednesday for a place in the last eight.
