Callan’s Alcohol Emporium placed up for sale as family set to retire from business

One of Dundalk’s best known family businesses, Callan’s Alcohol Emporium, is set to close its doors later this year.

The popular off licence on Park Street has been placed up for sale through local estate agents Philip A. McArdle & Son Auctioneers.

The business has been in the Callan family for three generations.

Currently owned by Kevin and Mary Callan, it was established by Kevin’s father Hugh in 1941 when he purchased the bar and grocery business at 40 Park Street at the age of just 24.

Hugh retired from the business in 1989, passing it on to Kevin and Mary. They would expand the business over the years with son Niall doing likewise more recently with the establishment of online sales and the introduction of a diverse craft beer section.

The family will continue to trade until later this year when Kevin and Mary will retire.

The pub, which has been closed in recent years, as well as the off-licence business are being sold as a going concern by Philip A. McArdle & Son Auctioneers. For further details call 042 9334235.
