Candlelight gathering in memory of those who lost their lives in Carlingford pushed back to Sunday
A candlelight gathering planned for this Saturday to remember those who lost their lives in Carlingford on St Patrick’s weekend has been pushed back until Sunday evening.
The event was organised by the Cooley Community Alert group following the deaths of three young people in the area last weekend. In the early hours of Sunday morning Shane McAnallen and Martin Patterson, both from Co Down, lost their lives following a fatal road crash on the R173 between Carlingford and Omeath. The remains of 30-year-old mother of three Ruth Maguire, from Newcastle in Co Down, were also recovered from Carlingford Lough yesterday after she went missing from a hen party group in the village on Saturday night.
The group announced plans earlier this week for a candlelight gathering in memory of the trio but this has now been moved to Sunday in order to allow their family members to attend.
It will gather at the Old Tourist Office at 8pm and all are welcome to attend.
