Chris Shields to auction FAI Cup final jersey he never got to wear in aid of Pieta House

Dundalk FC star Chris Shields will be auctioning off the FAI Cup final jersey he never got to wear in aid of Pieta House on Thursday.

The midfielder controversially missed out on last Monday’s Cup final against Shamrock Rovers at the Aviva Stadium, which his side lost on penalties, after picking up an eighth yellow card of the season in a meaningless league game away to Cork City.

Taking to social media yesterday, Shields said he would be auctioning it off at the Mental Health in Sport event planned for McAlester’s Bar on Bridge Street tomorrow night.

Shields said: “As Thursday night is all about turning negatives to positives, I’m going to auction off the most famous jersey I never wore. My 2019 FAI cup final jersey. This one is for the collectors. Auction will close at 9pm Thursday. Reply to this tweet with bids.”

So far the top bid on the jersey stands at €350.

Shields will be discussing mental health on the night as part of a line-up which includes team-mate Pat Hoban, League of Ireland legend Killian Brennan, former Armagh footballer Aaron Kernan and very special guests.

The night gets underway at 7pm in McAlester’s Bar on Thursday with all proceeds going towards Pieta House.
