David Murphy appointed new sports physiotherapist at Dundalk FC
Dundalk FC have announced that David Murphy has been appointed as the club’s new sports physiotherapist and will work closely with the first team and academy.
Speaking to dundalkfc.com after joining the backroom team Murphy admitted it was good to be at his hometown club.
“I am really excited to be here. Dundalk are my hometown club. When I was growing up as a kid I didn’t live too far from Oriel Park so to be working here is quite surreal.
“I never thought I would be working with the champions of Ireland after such a successful season. It’s great to be at the club and I am excited to be working under the new management staff and with Danny Miller. He is a great guy and great professional so it’s very exciting. “
The Dundalk native gave a background to his route back home and said ‘football is where his heart is’
“I qualified in the UK and I worked for Colchester United initially. I progressed on to Reading after that. I worked from League One into Championship for a couple of years and then on to the Olympic setup at Southampton.
“It is a big change but football is where my heart is and what I enjoy so it’s great to be back and I am ready for the new challenge.”
With pre-season underway, Murphy is looking forward to the season itself beginning in just 5 weeks time and feels the last 7 days of preparations have gone well.
“I am living in Dublin at the moment so not just back in the town yet! But loving being back in Ireland, friends and family are here so it’s great being back in Ireland.
“I can’t wait to get going. Pre-season has started well for us and we have had a good few days in here. It’s a great club to be at. The squad and staff are great here.
“I just can’t wait to get pre-season over with, get it out of the way and into the season.”
