Dundalk company Radio Systems Petsafe Europe Limited named best small company to work for in Ireland
A Dundalk-based business was named the best small company in Ireland at the Great Place to Work Best Workplaces 2018 event which took place at the Clayton Hotel in Dublin last night.
Radio Systems Petsafe Europe Limited (RSPEL), who are based at the Elgee Building at the Market Square were named the best small company to work for in the country at the awards last night, improving on their second placed position from last year.
The company opened its doors locally in 2012 with an initial 20 employees and has been growing ever since.
The accolade comes on the back of the business being recognised by Great Place to Work as the ninth Best Workplace in Europe last year.
In the employee survey assessment, RSPEL achieved top marks, with 100 per cent of staff declaring the company a Great Place to Work®, a three per cent increase on last year’s score. The company also achieved highly in its overall score – which measures culture, trust and employee experience – achieving 98 per cent, far exceeding 70 per cent, the minimum to achieve certification.
Radio Systems PetSafe Europe Limited is the European subsidiary of Radio Systems Corporation, the largest manufacturer of pet accessories in the world. Their brands PetSafe and SportDOG produce wide-ranging, innovative pet accessory products.
The company produces pet accessories ranging from training, containment, pet doors, toys, lifestyle and wellbeing product solutions which are available across the PetSafe portfolio, whilst the SportDOG brand boasts a complete line of GPS, e-collar and training products designed specifically for field sports enthusiasts.
The Dundalk team includes customer care, sales support, order management, supply chain, logistics, finance, human resources, web content and ERP support staff.
The Great Place to Work judges said: “The company shows ongoing support and recognition of employees through forming its own internal kudos reward system. That is empowered through peer-to-peer recognition, where hard work is recognised through small gifts and experiences for employees.”
In the last year, RSPEL has also introduced policies to help encourage better work/life balance, offering employees both flexi-time and working from home. On top of more traditional perks, as a pet-centric business RSPEL also offers perks to ensure employees have great relationships with their pet. These include being allowed to bring dogs into the office, eight hours’ ‘paw-rental’ leave to help new pets settle and three days’ paid pet bereavement leave. RSPEL also helps to cover the cost of pet care, including microchipping, insurance and health check-ups.

The event, which was attended by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, also seen the Blackthorn Business Park-based Intact Software named the 17th best small company to work for in Ireland.
Their first year on the list, a large team from the ERP, accounting and business management software firm attended the awards with CEO Justin Lawless collecting their honour on the night.
