Dundalk doctor bidding for Fianna Fáil nomination for European elections
Dundalk-based medical doctor Dr Dilip Mahapatra has been selected by Fianna Fáil to contest the party’s selection convention for the forthcoming European Elections on May 24th.
The party’s National Constituencies Committee has directed that one candidate be selected at the Midlands North West convention next week with nine names putting their names forward.
Former TD Niall Blaney from Donegal and sitting Senator Aidan Davitt from Westmeath are confirmed to contest that selection convention with Dr Mahapatra being put forward from Louth. His practice is on the St Alphonsus Road.
Also in the ring are Galway East TD Anne Rabbitte and Cavan-Monaghan Brendan Smith, as well as Carlow-Kilkenny TD John McGuinness.
Mayo man John Comer, a former chairperson of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association; Gerry Bridgett from Kildare South; Sean Hennelly from Galway and councillor Naoise Ó Cearúil from Kildare North are also bidding to win the nomination.
The selection convention will take place in Longford on Friday March 15th.
Fianna Fáil are hoping to win back the seat lost by outgoing MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher in 2014.
