Dundalk FC come from behind to see off UCD
Dundalk FC made it three wins on the bounce after coming from behind to beat UCD at the UCD Bowl on a 3-1 scoreline yesterday afternoon.
Vinny Perth’s side had to do things the hard way to claim the victory after falling behind to a Yoyo Mahdy goal after just 11 minutes.
The Students’ lead lasted just four minutes as Pat Hoban equalised from the penalty spot after Daniel Kelly was fouled by Paul Doyle. Hoban’s strike was his 69th league goal for the club, equaling the record previously held by the late Joey Donnelly.
Having had a volley ruled out right on the whistle for half-time, Michael Duffy then fired Dundalk in front five minutes into the second half when he turned brilliantly at the edge of the UCD box before side-stepping goalkeeper Conor Kearns to blast home.
The three points were then ensured in stoppage time when Jordan Flores set up fellow substitute Georgie Kelly (pictured above) for his first league goal for the club against his old side.
The result saw Dundalk close the gap on league leaders Shamrock Rovers to seven points and move ahead of Bohemian FC into second place in the table. The two Dublin sides meet tonight at Tallaght Stadium.
Next up for Dundalk is the visit of Shamrock Rovers to Oriel Park on Friday night. Tickets for that game go on sale from Oriel at 10am this morning.
