Dundalk FC face trip to Latvia in Champions League
Dundalk FC have been drawn to face Riga FC of Latvia in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.
The draw for the first qualifying round tie took place in Nyon in Switzerland this afternoon.
While the full fixture arrangements are yet to be determined, the first leg is expected to take take place in Dundalk on either July 9th or 10th with the return leg in Riga on July 16th or 17th.
Vinny Perth’s side will learn their possible second qualifying opponents when the draw for that stage takes place tomorrow. Even if the Lilywhites were to lose they would enter the Europa League at the second round qualifying stage.
Teams which Dundalk avoided in the draw include Polish champions Piast Gliwice, Valur Reykjavík of Iceland, Linfield from Northern Ireland, HB Tórshavn from the Faroe Islands and the preliminary round winners which will be one from Kosovan side Feronikeli, Lincoln Red Imps from Gibraltar, Tre Penne from San Marino or FC Santa Coloma from Andorra.
Before the Champions League comes around, Dundalk will face Shamrock Rovers in a top of the table fixture at Tallaght Stadium in their next outing on Friday June 28th followed by the visit of Waterford FC to Oriel Park on Monday July 1st and a trip to the Brandywell to face Derry City on Friday July 5th.
