Dundalk FC firm favourites to retain title with bookmakers
Dundalk FC kick-off the new SSE Airtricity League Premier Division season at home to Sligo Rovers tonight as firm favourites to retain their title.
Despite the departure of manager Stephen Kenny over the winter, both Paddy Power and BoyleSports fancy the new management team of Vinny Perth, Ruaidhrí Higgins and John Gill to keep the league winners’ trophy in Oriel Park come the end of October.
The Lilywhites are 4/5 favourites with Paddy Power and 5/6 favourites with BoyleSports.
Second favourites are Shamrock Rovers (3/1 with both bookmakers) followed by last season’s runners-up Cork City (5/1 Paddy Power, 9/2 BoyleSports) and St Patrick’s Athletic (7/1 Paddy Power, 8/1 BoyleSports).
Meanwhile Dundalk’s Pat Hoban is the 2/1 favourite with Paddy Power to be top scorer with Mikey Drennan 6/1 second favourite followed by Shamrock Rovers’ Orhan Vojic at 7/1 and Graham Cummins of Cork City at 8/1
Dundalk’s Georgie Kelly is 10/1 with Michael Duffy 16/1, Daniel Kelly and Patrick McEleney 25/1 and Robbie Benson and Jamie McGrath 40/1.
Kick-off at Oriel Park is at 7.45pm tonight with the match being shown live on RTÉ Two.
