Dundalk FC overcome Bohs to book FAI Cup semi-final against Athlone Town
Dundalk FC will face Athlone Town next Sunday for a place in the FAI Cup final after overcoming Bohemian FC 4-1 in their quarter-final tie at Dalymount Park on Friday night.
Filippo Giovagnoli’s side hit the front inside the opening 90 seconds when Michael Duffy was played in by David McMillan before firing past James Talbot.
Bohs were back on level terms however by the quarter hour mark when Andre Wright squeezed a penalty under Gary Rogers after a handball in the box by Chris Shields.
Dundalk restored their lead on 35 minutes from the penalty spot when McMillan converted after Duffy had been bundled over by Keith Buckley.
The striker then made it 3-1 three minutes later with a superb close range header from Cameron Dummigan’s cross.
Bohs fought hard to get back in the game with Andy Boyle clearing a header from Wright off the line just before half-time and Gary Rogers making a number of fine saves.
However, the home side’s hopes suffered a hammer blow on 72 minutes when Michael Barker was sent-off for a second bookable offence.
Dundalk dominated the closing stages and added a fourth three minutes from the end when Duffy set up Nathan Oduwa for his first goal in the white shirt.
Dundalk now face Rapid Vienna in the Europa League on Thursday night before travelling to Athlone for the Cup semi-final on Sunday.
