Dundalk open up a five point lead with Harps win
Dundalk FC opened up a five point lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity League table following a 3-0 win away to Finn Harps in Ballybofey last night.
Goals from Michael Duffy, John Mountney and Brian Gartland ensured the victory for Vinny Perth’s side who ensured they capitalised on Shamrock Rovers drawing 2-2 at home to Derry City earlier that evening.
The breakthrough arrived in the 31st minute when Mountney’s cross picked out Duffy who sent a bullet header to the net.
Mountney then continued his fine scoring form with a second three minutes before the break as he headed in from Patrick McEleney’s cross.
The result was then ensured just after the hour mark when captain Gartland headed in a third from Jordan Flores’ free kick.
Dundalk are next in action on June 28th when they travel to Tallaght Stadium for a crunch meeting with Shamrock Rovers.
