Dundalk FC bounced back from their European exit against Slovan Bratislava 72 hours earlier with a comfortable 5-0 win over 10 man Finn Harps at Oriel Park on Friday night to preserve their seven point lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity League table.

Daniel Kelly gave Vinny Perth’s side the lead on 36 minutes when he seized on a loose pass by Harry Ascroft to fire past goalkeeper Mark McGinley.

Harps’ hopes of getting back in the game then suffered a huge setback five minutes before half-time when full back Mark Russell picked up a second yellow card for a trip on Daniel Kelly.

With the man advantage Dundalk took the game to Harps with McGinley pulling off several fine saves to keep the score down.

The Donegal side were once again the creators of their own downfall on 61 minutes when a misplaced backpass by Joshua Smith was seized upon by Georgie Kelly who made it 2-0.

Four minutes later and it was 3-0 with Cameron Dummigan’s cross picking out Patrick McEleney, who controlled before firing in his first goal of the season.

McEleney then turned provider for the fourth when his pass picked out the inrushing Jamie McGrath, who took a touch before drilling through the legs of McGinley.

McGrath then returned the favour for the fifth with a superb pass to play McEleney in and the Derry man made no mistake with a dinked finish past the keeper to make it 5-0.

Dundalk are in action again tonight when they host Bohemian FC in the EA Sports Cup semi-final at Oriel Park.
