Dunne reported to be considering switching his international allegiance to Northern Ireland
Blackrock man Jimmy Dunne is reported to be considering switching his international allegiance from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland.
The Burnley defender, who has impressed on loan at Scottish Premier League leaders Hearts this season, is currently part of Noel King’s U21 squad and was an unused sub in last night’s 3-1 defeat to Israel.
However, a report in today’s Irish Independent claims that the former Rock Celtic player is on Michael O’Neill’s radar after the Northern Irish manager became aware that Dunne was eligible to play for the North through his grandparents.
As Dunne has only played 18 minutes of a friendly for the Irish U-21s, he could go straight into the Northern Ireland squad if called upon.
The 20-year-old former Manchester Utd trainee has made seven appearances for Hearts this season, scoring twice, having helped Accrington Stanley to the League Two title last season during a separate loan spell.
