Elderly woman trapped in bathroom after thieves break in to her home

A second aggravated burglary targeting an elderly person in the area took place in Dundalk yesterday evening.

The incident occurred on the St Alphonsus Road shortly before 5pm.

According to LMFM news, the elderly female victim discovered two men in a bedroom in her home.

One of the intruders pushed her onto a couch while the other searched her home. The masked pair fled with a quantity of jewellery after locking the woman into a bathroom.

She remained trapped there for two hours until her husband arrived home and raised the alarm.

An ambulance was called to the scene but the woman did not require hospital treatment.

The incident follows a similar one in the Rock Road area of Blackrock on Tuesday night when masked men armed with a hammer, a hatchet and a knife tied up an elderly couple in their 80s before making off with a sum of cash and the couple’s car, which was later found abandoned nearby.

Anyone who was in the St Alphonsus Road area yesterday evening who witnessed anything suspicious is asked to contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 9335577.
