Fine Gael postpones Louth selection convention
Fine Gael has opted to postpone its selection convention for the next General Election in Louth and East Meath until the end of next month.
The convention was due to go ahead in Dundalk next Friday August 24th but the party has opted to push it back until Thursday September 27th due to the “unexpected decision” of sitting TD Peter Fitzpatrick to withdraw from the running.
A party spokesperson said the postponement would give all candidates “sufficient time to meet and canvass as many members as possible ahead of the selection convention with full knowledge of the changed circumstances.”
Seven party members have put their names forward for convention: sitting TD Fergus O’Dowd, Dundalk-based councillors John McGahon and Maria Doyle, their Louth County Council colleagues Colm Markey and Dolores Minogue and Meath County Councillors Paddy Meade and Sharon Tolan.
