Fitzpatrick may run in next General Election as an independent
Local TD Peter Fitzpatrick may contest the next General Election as an independent candidate.
The Belfry Gardens man announced last month that he will not be seeking a nomination from Fine Gael to run in the next election.
Talk of the Town were first to speculate that he could run as an independent at the time of his decision. Now The Argus is reporting that the former Louth GAA is considering entering the race separate to the party whom he was first elected for in February 2011.
It is reported that Fitzpatrick will make a statement on his intentions after the Fine Gael selection convention on September 27th.
Seven candidates have put their names forward to run on the Fine Gael ticket at the next election, including sitting Louth TD Fergus O’Dowd, Dundalk-based councillors John McGahon and Maria Doyle, Mid Louth councillors Colm Markey and Dolores Minogue and East Meath duo Sharon Tobin and Paddy Meade.
