Former local journalist Gene Yore honoured with lifetime membership of NUJ
Former local journalist Gene Yore was amongst those honoured for their contribution to the profession by the National Union of Journalists at an event in Dublin last night.
The Dromiskin man, who retired from The Dundalk Democrat earlier this year, received life membership of the union for 40 years membership of the NUJ.
His honour was presented by Tim Dawson, president of the NUJ in Britain and Ireland and NUJ official Seamus Dooley.
Gene, who was well known for covering local authority meetings as well as events in mid-Louth, was one of two members of the Eastern branch to receive the honour alongside Patsy McArdle from the Northern Standard.
Amongst the other prominent names also honoured on the night included former RTÉ Radio presenter Cathal MacCoille, who retired from his Morning Ireland show earlier this year.
