Former local publican James McCourt passes away

The death has occurred of former local publican James McCourt of McCourt’s Pub on Francis Street.

James, from Bridge House on The Ramparts, passed away peacefully on Tuesday in the Louth County Hospital under the wonderful care of Dr Brannigan.

A former chairman of the local vintners’ association, in more recent times McCourt’s has been run by his son Michael.

James is survived by his wife Francis (née Craig) and children Julia, Michael, Jimmy, Paul, David and Niall as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, son-in-law Paddy, daughters-in-law Catherine, Michelle, Liz, Pauline and Sandra, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

He will be reposing at his home on The Ramparts from 12 noon until 8pm on Wednesday. Removal on Thursday afternoon at 1.15pm to St Patrick’s Cathedral arriving for Mass at 1.30pm. Burial afterwards in St Patrick’s Cemetery.

Local GAA club Na Piarsaigh have led the tributes saying: “Na Piarsaigh would like to extend its sympathy to the McCourt family on the sad passing of James. McCourt’s Bar was a great meeting point for our club through the years, where we always received a warm welcome.”
