Goodman family quadrupled their wealth last year
Local beef baron Larry Goodman and his family quadrupled their wealth last year to become the fourth richest people in Ireland.
That’s according to the Sunday Times Irish Rich List, published yesterday.
Castlebellingham-based Goodman, who also invests in commercial property and healthcare, now shares a €2.455 billion fortune with wife Kitty and sons Laurence and Mark according to the paper.
This figure represents an increase of €1.822bn on 2018, moving Goodman and his family from 22nd on the list to fourth. They are behind only Hilary, Galen Jr and Alannah Weston — whose assets include Primark and Selfridges — Limerick-born tech entrepreneurs Patrick and John Collison, and John Dorrance, owner of Campbell’s Soup.
Only the Collisons, now in San Francisco, saw their wealth grow faster than Goodman’s. The joint fortune of Patrick, 30, and John, 28, the co-owners of online payments company Stripe, grew by €2.6bn to €5bn, making John the world’s youngest euro billionaire.
Larry’s son Laurence Goodman is involved with local developers Urban Life who have current local projects at Mount Hamilton on the Carrick Road, the Marshes at the Ramparts and at Mount Avenue.
The next local on the list was Lady Ballyedmond and family. Mary Haughey and her family have a wealth of €1.861 billion following the death of Lord Ballyedmond, aka Kilcurry man Edward Haughey in 2014.
Deirdre, Mark and Aoife Lyons, the survivors of Alltech’s Dundalk-born Dr Pearse Lyons, were 10th in the list with a €1.7 billion fortune.
The Murtagh family of Kingspan fame are 13th on the list with €1.442 billion. Last week Gene Murtagh put his stunning home Ballybarrack House on the Ardee Road on the market for €1.45m.
They are just ahead of Martin Naughton and family of Glen Dimplex fame in 14th place. They have a wealth of €1.4 billion.
Further down the list in 82nd place are Carl and David McCann and family of Fyffes and Total Produce fame. They have a fortune of €182 million.
Digiweb’s Colm Piercy is joint 214th in the list with an €81 million fortune while John Boyle of BoyleSports was joint 267th with an estimated wealth of €65 million.
