Investigation launched into house purchases by Louth County Council
Councillors in Louth have been waiting for well over a month now for a report on the purchase of houses by the county council for social housing purposes back in 2010.
The Dundalk Democrat broke the story last month that two senior executives at the council approved the purchase of homes they owned. Since then the story has been featured in the likes of The Sunday Times and The Irish Times, with Sinn Féin TD Gerry Adams even raising it in the Dáil.
New County Manager Philomena Poole ordered a report into the matter, with Sinn Féin councillor Tomás Sharkey reporting this morning that the report has now been received.
The matter was discussed at the council’s monthly meeting this morning and a full investigation has now been launched into the matter as a result of the report.
