JCDecaux looking to retain advertising billboard on Dublin Road

JCDecaux Ireland are seeking to retain an advertising billboard located at Ladywell Terrace on the Dublin Road.

They have submitted a planning application to Louth County Council seeking retention permission for an existing static externally illuminated 6.0m x 3.0m advertising billboard on the northwest gable of 1 Ladywell Terrace.

A decision on the matter will be made by August 29th.

In November 2014, the local authority refused planning permission to Clear Channel Ireland Ltd to retain a similarly sized billboard erected nearby at 16 Line Terrace on Hill Street.

Explaining their reasoning at the time, the council said the billboard was “located in an area zoned for residential use where it is the objective of the Council to ‘protect, provide and improve residential amenities.’

“The proposed development comprises the retention of a commercial advertising display board adjacent to the gable of an end terrace dwelling unit, overlooking amenity open space associated with same.

“It is considered that the nature of the commercial use in an area zoned for residential purposes would be contrary to the zooming matrix and Table 2.4 of the 2009-2015 Dundalk and Environs Development Plan and would be contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.”
