Jimmy Magee to be honoured posthumously with Special Merit Award by the FAI
Legendary Irish broadcaster and commentator Jimmy Magee will be posthumously honoured with the Special Merit Awards at the 3 FAI International Awards on Sunday March 18th.
The ‘Memory Man’ who grew up in Greenore and was an honorary member of the Cooley Kickhams club, passed away last September aged 82.
Jimmy was best known for his commentary across a wide sporting field, including football and this will be honoured by the FAI who plan a unique tribute to “a broadcaster who elevated Irish football to a new level through his passionate and skilled style of commentating.”
Confirming the honour, the FAI said in a statement: “The FAI always maintained a strong relationship with Jimmy and was deeply saddened by his passing last September. So it is only fitting that he will be honoured with the Special Merit Award.”
Jimmy’s children Mark, June, Linda and Patricia as well as a wider circle of family are expected to attend the awards.
The full list of nominees for this year’s 3 FAI International Awards will be revealed on Friday.
