The North Louth property, which stands on 13 Hectares and features a top class competition standard indoor arena with a second indoor area and two further Grand Prix standard arenas, was placed up for lease by local estate agents Property Partners Laurence Gunne last month.

Now O’Connell, who lives locally but has worked at Kilronan Equestrian Centre, has announced that he will be taking over the reins from the Connolly family in the New Year.

He said: “I’m excited to announce that my new base from January will be Ravensdale Lodge.

“Having agreed a lease on the equestrian facilities I’m looking forward to developing a high quality training and coaching centre. My vision is to operate a venue that both professional and amateur riders will use for training, whether it is for a single coaching session, or a residential training programme over a week, month or season.

“My plans include inviting other coaches to host clinics, both from Ireland and abroad, to run open schooling days and demonstrations. This is a thought that has been in my head for a while now, and when this venue, which is 5 minutes from my house became available it seemed too good an opportunity to pass up. Hope to see you all in the new year.”
