Keelan elected new chairperson of Dundalk Municipal District Committee

Cllr Conor Keelan has been elected the new chairperson of the Dundalk Municipal District Committee for the next 12 months.

The Fianna Fáil councillor replaces Cllr John McGahon in the chair after defeating Sinn Féin nominee Cllr Anne Campbell in a vote last night.

The Newry Road man is a former Dundalk Town Council chairman having been elected to that role in June 2010.

The new vice chairperson is Fine Gael’s Cllr Maria Doyle, who defeated Sinn Féin’s Edel Corrigan in a vote for that position.

Reacting to his year as chairman coming to an end Cllr McGahon said: “I’ve loved every minute of being Cathaoirleach of the Dundalk Municipal District over the past 12 months. It’s been such a privilege to represent my home town. Good luck to Cllr Conor Keelan who has taken over, I know he will do a fantastic job.”
