Leader of gang involved in Adrian Donohoe murder suspected of involvement in Castleblayney ATM theft
The leader of the gang involved in the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe in January 2013 is suspected of being involved in the theft of an ATM from Castleblayney earlier this week.
Around €50,000 worth of damage was caused when a cash machine was torn from the wall of the AIB Bank on Main Street with a stolen digger shortly after 3am on Tuesday.
It was the eighth ATM robbery of 2019 with cross-border gangs being linked with the heists.
According to a report in today’s Irish Independent, Gardaí believe that a chief suspect in Garda Donohoe’s murder is one of the main suspects in this week’s theft.
So far, one man has been charged with the murder of Detective Garda Donohoe at Lordship Credit Union in Bellurgan more than six years ago and is due to face trial later this year.
But despite the Garda attention on him, the ATM robbery gang leader, who has not been arrested, is still involved in armed robberies and thefts on both sides of the Border.
