Lisa Smith set to be charged on suspicion of terrorist offences
Garda have confirmed that Dundalk woman Lisa Smith is to be charged on suspicion of terrorist offences and will appear in court this morning.
The 38-year-old has been in custody at Kevin Street Garda Station since returning to Ireland from Turkey on Sunday morning.
She was arrested after stepping off the Turkish Airlines flight with her two-year-old daughter on suspicion of terrorist offences.
This gave Gardaí the opportunity to question her for 72 hours at which stage they either had to release her or press charges. It now appears that the latter will occur.
The former Irish Army member travelled to Syria three years ago to join the so-called Islamic State group, but maintains she was not involved in fighting.
