Live Register figure falls back in May
The number of people signing on the Live Register in Dundalk fell by 1.2% in May.
The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show there were 3,661 people claiming dole benefits in the town last month, down 49 from 3,710 in the previous month.
Despite the decrease, the figure remains at its second highest level this year but is a welcome 12.9% lower than this time last year when the figure stood at 4,205 – a fall of 544.
There was a similar story in the county as a whole with the number of people signing on the register in Co Louth in May falling by 2.5% from 7,941 to 7,743.
This is the lowest Live Register figure recorded in the county since the 7,390 who were on it in January 2008.
The year-on-year figure was also down 13% from 8,904 in May 2018.
Elsewhere in the county, the number of people claiming dole payments in Ardee fell back by 3.8% last month from 879 to 846 while it was also down 3.5% from 3,710 to 3,661 in Drogheda.
