Local golfer Brendan Lawlor to take part in historic Handa World Invitational in Northern Ireland
Local golfer Brendan Lawlor will be taking part in the historical ISPS Handa World Invitational event which got underway at the Galgorm Castle Golf Club and Massereeene Golf Club in Northern Ireland this morning.
The innovative event brings men and women together on the same courses as they compete in their respective tournaments for separate trophies and equal prize funds for the first time on European soil.
Louth Village man Brendan is due to tee off at the Ballymena venue at 1.47pm alongside Swedish duo Bjorn Hellgren and Magnus A Carlsson.
The European Challenge Tour event is hosted by Modest! Golf Management, the company run by One Direction star Niall Horan who Brendan met yesterday when they played together in the Pro Am alongside top Irish female golfer Leona Maguire.
Brendan, a member at Dundalk Golf Club, is one of the world’s leading disabled players. The 22-year-old was born with a bone growth disorder which leads to shorter limbs, but the four foot 11 inch Louth man plays top level amateur golf in Ireland in addition to having a long-term ambition of representing his country at future Paralympics.
The event features a range of top golfers including Northern Ireland’s Cormac Sharvin, who was the top Irish finisher at this year’s Irish Open, Brooks’ brother Chase Kopek and Frenchman Gregory Bourdy.
