Local teachers praise Fyffes Fit Squad initiative
Two Dundalk school teachers have spoken in praise of a health and fitness programme currently being delivered to schools by Irish fitness expert Tom Dalton and supported by Fyffes.
Caitriona Dempsey, Principal at St Oliver Plunkett National School in Blackrock describes a visit to her school earlier this year, when her pupils took part, as ‘a thoroughly enjoyable experience’ with topics such as advice on healthy eating, exercises for young people through engaging and fun-filled activities and tips on how to use leisure time to stay physically fit.
Echoing her sentiments, Fiona Mullen, a teacher at Kilsaran National School, Castlebellingham says: “Fit Squad proved to be an extremely worthwhile experience for the students and staff who took part and it was very easy to register for and organise. The trainer clearly had a lot of experience working with a large groups of children, who were actively engaged throughout and thoroughly enjoyed their workout.
“The exercises were easy to follow and simple for us, as teachers, to remember and implement during PE lessons. The fact that no equipment was necessary is a big bonus for us.”
Since its inception last year, Fyffes award-winning ‘Fit Squad’ initiative has visited 123 schools and seen over 14,000 children participate in 246 interactive sessions across 25 counties throughout Ireland, North and South.
Schools and sports clubs interested in participating in the project are asked to visit www.fyffesfitsquad.ie
