Louth has the eighth highest rate of burglaries in the country, new figures have revealed.

An investigation by The Irish Independent shows there were 515 break-ins in the county last year.

This equates to 400 burglaries per 100,000 of population, according to the report.

Only Dublin City, South Dublin, Fingal, Wicklow, Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown, Kildare and Limerick local authority areas had higher rates.
