Main Street in Dunleer closed after another attempt to steal ATM
Main Street in Dunleer remains closed this morning after another attempt to remove the ATM from the Bank of Ireland branch in the town overnight.
It is understood that the attempted theft occurred at around 4.30am.
The digger used in the attempt to remove the cash machine remains at the scene.
Diversions are in place.
Gardaí said: “Traffic Alert – Main street Dunleer Co Louth is currently closed to traffic following an attempted ATM theft which was intercepted by a Garda ASU patrol. Traffic diversions are in place. Investigations are ongoing.”
A subsequent statement read: “Members were patrolling the area at the time managed to intercept the attempted theft and a pursuit ensued onto the N1 in which the culprits made their way over the border. The PSNI are assisting An Garda Síochána in their searches. No injuries reported.”
This is the second attempt at stealing the ATM in the heart of Dunleer after a similar unsuccessful attempt in November.
