New Educate Together school building being planned in Ardee
A new primary school building to house Ardee Educate Together National School is being planned.
Louth County Council have signalled their intention to build a 1,923sqm building at a 2.37 hectare site on Jervis Street.
Currently located on the Dundalk Road, Ardee Educate Together is the closest Educate Together school to Dundalk.
Educate Together schools are multi-denominational, co-educational, child centred and democratically run. With two similar schools in Drogheda, a campaign was launched in recent years to establish an Educate Together school in Dundalk but this has yet to come to fruition.
The new school building will include eight classrooms, a special needs unit incorporating a multi-sensory room, special tuition, general sanitary and administration rooms, as well as a single hard ball court, junior hard play area, sensory play and sensory garden and general grass play areas.
There would also be vehicular access to a bus set-down area, 19 car parking spaces and two universally accessible car parking spaces, as well as 22 bicycle racks for 44 bicycles.
The general site estate development includes an access boulevard, pedestrian pavements and cycle lanes to be constructed from Jervis Street to service the school site and make provision for future development within the existing adjacent estate. The existing stone wall on Jervis Street shall be taken and realigned to form a new public access to this boulevard. The proposed development also includes hard and soft landscaping, boundary fencing, site attenuation, associated site services integration and services diversions.
A decision on the matter will be made by April 2nd.
