New lifestyle café RockSalt to open in Blackrock next month
A new lifestyle gourmet café will open its doors on the promenade in Blackrock this July.
RockSalt Café will be situated in the historical Danny Hughes Seaside Shop, which is undergoing renovation at present.
The new venture will be operated by Blackrock native Daniel McLoughlin, who has spent the last 10 years working throughout the hospitality industry in Ireland, the UK and the US. Now Daniel has returned home with the knowledge and experience to transform the food culture in Blackrock.
At RockSalt Daniel will team up with an old Rock Cetlic team mate in Conor Prendergast, who will be the café’s Head Chef. Conor brings a wealth of kitchen experience coming from his most recent role in the award winning Barbazon restaurant in Tankerstown House as Sous Chef.
RockSalt will be focusing on using the freshest local ingredients, sourcing the majority of its produce direct from the best local farms and food producers and will tailor a healthy and tasty menu around their suppliers. The café will be open for breakfast, brunch and lunch daily with themed evening dining in the pipeline.
“We will be very much a community led café focusing on serving great food with a homely environment with a friendly smile,” said Daniel.
“We will be a lifestyle café and will be encouraging the local community to join us for yoga morning in the café or jogs around Blackrock to kick start the day.”
Daniel has been working hard to create a unique artisan coffee for RockSalt, as he has done previously in his role as General Manager of Shoda Market Café in Maynooth. He has created a specially roasted coffee blend for RockSalt which he has perfected with his roasters. There unique coffee will be a quality grade blend sourcing beans from Brazil, Sumatra and Kenya. It will be a must try for any coffee lovers.
The decor of the café has been uniquely designed by Conor Hughes and Daniel, with Conor striving to find a unique design for this upmarket café which will not have been seen anywhere before. He has sourced booth seating from an old Hungarian tram, seating from Holland along with fantastic feature windows. The design alone will be something spectacular and will restore his dad’s shop back to its former glory.
This is a great venture and opportunity for Blackrock and Dundalk to have a great local spot to be proud of. It will bring local jobs and experience to roughly 10-12 local people.
Daniel has had a very successful career to date winning management awards in the UK and most recently winning Food & Beverage Manager of the Year 2017 for his work and development of Shoda Market Café. He said he is delighted to be able to team up with Conor to bring his experience back to where it all started and hopes that the local community in Blackrock will enjoy RockSalt.
