Number on the Live Register in Dundalk increases ever so slightly in December
The number of people signing on the Live Register in Dundalk increased ever so slightly in December.
After four months of falls, the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show there were 3,656 people claiming dole benefits in the town last month, up 0.2% or seven people from 3,549 at the end of November.
Despite the slight increase, the register remains at its lowest level since June 2008 when there were 3,547 signing on. It is also down 10.9% from 4,101 in December 2017.
There was a similar story in the county as a whole with the number of people signing on the register in Co Louth in December increasing by 2.1% from 7,824 to 7,992.
Despite this marginal increase, the number signing on was down 12% from 9,079 for the same month in 2017.
The increase was helped by slight increases in the number signing on in Ardee, which increased by 5.5% from 831 to 877 and in Drogheda where the numbers claiming the dole was up 3.4% from 3,344 to 3,459.
