The Phoenix Bar back on the market
One of Dundalk’s best known pubs is back on the market.
The Phoenix Bar on Park Street has been placed up for sale via local estate agents REA Gunne Property with an asking price of €400,000.
The popular pub at 15 Park Street only reopened its doors last December having been closed since July 2017 when its then proprietor Stephen Traynor retired from the business. He had run the pub with his wife Betty for 19 years before the latter’s passing on Christmas Day 2016.
One of the town’s oldest pubs, it reopened under new ownership following renovation work last Christmas but is now back on the market with REA Gunnel, who also completed the last sale.
The selling agents said: “The Phoenix is arguably Dundalk’s most distinct and immediately recognisable commercial building. Steeped in history and oozing with character and charm whilst preserving so many of the building’s original features, the property was previously and professionally refurbished both inside and out.
“The layout generally provides at ground floor level for a beautiful front bar incorporating an ornate snug area, spacious service area with a private kitchen and another ‘olde world’ Lounge area to the rear, which also provides access to the first floor Ladies and Gents WCs and enclosed smoking area. There are numerous unused and well laid out rooms at upper floor levels, ideal for conversion to living accommodation for owner occupation.”
