Tony Golden Memorial Cycle to depart Blackrock on Wednesday
On Wednesday members of An Garda Siochana will set out from Blackrock Village and will cycle 240km to Ballina, Co. Mayo in aid of the “Tony Golden Trust Fund”.
Cyclists on the first day will cycle from Blackrock to Drumshanbo in Co Leitrim (140km). On the second day the cyclists will leave Drumshanbo and travel to Ballina (100km).
Tony Golden was originally from Ballina in County Mayo and stationed in Omeath, Co. Louth. Tony lived locally with his family in Blackrock.
Garda Golden was tragically killed in the line of duty on October 11th 2015 while attending a call. He was 36 years old at the time of his death.
Funds raised for the Blackrock to Ballina Cycle will go to the “Tony Golden Trust Fund” which was set up to support his wife Nicola and their three young children, Lucy, Alex and Andrew.
There are 66 cyclists taking part in this event including some of Tony’s immediate family and members from his home town in Ballina. Each cyclist who takes part will pay for their accommodation and other expenses along the way. They will each raise an extra minimum amount of €200 prior to the cycle.
